The Coordination of Benefits (COB) Specialist supports accurate payer responsibility by reviewing eligibility, claims, and coverage data to help determine primary and secondary insurance. This role researches COB discrepancies, including overlapping coverage across commercial, government, and employer-sponsored plans, conducts outreach to verify information, and documents findings for review or escalation. Working with internal teams, the specialist follows established COB guidelines and workflows, and helps identify claims that may have been paid incorrectly due to coordination of benefits issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Review member eligibility, claims, and coverage data to support COB determinations
- Research potential COB discrepancies, including overlapping coverage across payers
- Document findings clearly and prepare cases for review or escalation
- Follow established workflows and compliance guidelines
- Collaborate with internal teams to support resolution of COB cases
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in healthcare, insurance, or a related field
- Basic understanding of health insurance concepts (COB knowledge a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow defined processes
- Effective communication skills, especially for outreach and documentation
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and stay organized
